I don't believe there is a way to get the same run without sharing profiles. But that adds to the realism. Most convoys will involve you and your friend(s) going in the same general direction, but have different destinations.
Yes, as long as you have a valid Product Key you can add it to your Steam library. Note that this will probably re-install the game so it might be a good idea to back up all your profiles/mods and wipe the slate clean, then copy the profile/mod folder back across (the Steam version uses the same folder location as the retail version so it might overwrite on re-install)

My home garage is still the single shack from the start of the game. In the other garages are all truck brands represented, just whatever truck dealer is nearest. I do not active persue the games challenges, expect for the 2.000 km without damage, fines ect. which is quite hard. And as I have the heavy cargo pack, I like to make use of it.
no, you NEED to have steam to play the multiplayer but never fear all you need to do is take the key that you got in the box and activate it on steam and boom your done now you can use it. Also while your at it sign up for World Of Trucks to get some free DLC :)
